Gosh... A man as intelligent as myself should not be as cynical as I am...
I do not keep up with politics and I have no interest in them. I honestly believe the wants and the needs of the people will always be second place to the need for power and the greed of the elected.
This could be misconstrued as laziness, or not caring.. In fact I do care.. but I think the system is so faulty that it needs major fixing..
If I were president this is what I would work for::
The first thing It would be a flat tax of 10 percent on all money SPENT. By anyone. Housing, medical and food would be exempt. One percent would be given to the states to collect the revenue since most already have an agency in place to do so..
The benefits of this are many. First is the dissolution of the IRS. Every foreigner that comes in would have to pay that tax. They say a strong economy would be based on the savings of its people. Well with no taxes on interest earned people would be encouraged to save more..
The reason this will never happen is the IRS is a HUGE CORPORATION. Too many people would lose their jobs and the lost wages would trickle down affecting all of us ultimately.
Next I would legalize drugs, gambling and prostitution.. They are going to go on anyway - might as well legalize and tax them. Make money from them instead of spending to try to stop what we never may. Also mandatory health checks would be in place for prostitutes. Drugs would be dispensed from pharmacy by prescription and could be regulated and quality and consistency monitored. Too many users due from a dosage that they did not expect.
Then I would push for more of an isolationist stance. Let the rest of the world take care of their own politics. Spend defense money here to defend us! In other words get the shields and things up that can protect us from missile strikes and any other weapons. We have too much hunger and illiteracy and poverty here to be spending that much over seas..
Prisons... I would definitely reinstate devils island! But no bars or cells.. I would put all the violent criminals and drug PUSHERS out there to fend for themselves. They would start with building materials and seeds and have to start their own society. No TV or free college or free medical care.. Sounds cruel but many of the first settlers here were just that. We spend over 20k a year to house a prisoner. There are too many people in this country that do not make that in a year doing honest work.. Something is very wrong.. And this Island would be so far out that it would be impossible to make it to any land without major boat power or sails.. Of course there would be patrol boats and radar and if a swimmer got in the water... Well I would nick him for the sharks.. But ti would probably leave a bad taste in their mouths...
Finally I would push for socialized medicine. Medicare is a farce. People that need care and drugs cannot get their needs fulfilled. Something has to be done...
